Nigeria takes the lead as Spice TV debuts Spice Lifestyle Honours



The Eko Hotel Convention Center came alive on Wednesday, 5th of December, 2018 as XCHANGE, a consortium of event promoters led by Tajudeen Adepetu, organized the first ever Spice Lifestyle Honours event.

The event put together to recognize distinctive fashion and lifestyle brands attracted fashionistas and business executives across the continent in all their glam and sophistication.


The event was headlined by Aṣa whose last performance in the country was 18 months ago.

Hosted by Ghanaian TV presenter and Joselyn Dumas, the awards saw the likes of GTB, carting away the prize for Financial Services Brand of the Year, OC Ukeje winning the Male Lead in a Movie of the Year, Dangote Foundation winning the CSR Brand of the Year, while the Award for the Fashion brand stylist of the Year went to Dimeji Alara (SA), and Innovator of the Year went to Art X Lagos.While receiving this award for the best Luxury Wedding Event Company, Funke Bucknor of Zaphire Events broke down as she lovingly Talked about her late sister, Tosyn Bucknor who passed on last month.

Other winners of the night included Best Hotel of the Year – One and Only (SA), Female Lead in a Movie – Zynell Zu, Mostar Stylish Individual in Entertainment – D’banj (Nigeria), Music Brand of the Year – Universal Music Group and Beauty Brand of the Year – Malee (SA).

Vlisco carted home the Honours for fashion business of the year while Alara got the Honours for Lifestyle brand of the year. Other notable winners include Uche Pedro of Bellanaija for the Social and Digital Media Person of the Year and Saota for the Design Company of the Year.


The night was punctuated with musical performances from Bez, Adekunle Gold, Vector, the Entertainer and Falana.

There were also runway display by famous designers such as Pepperlow, Orapaleng, Orizu,David Tlale, Ugo Udezue, Kenneth Ize and others. Others were Red Button, Endi Martin, Torlowei and Chulaap.

However, one highlight of the night was when a smitten fan took the bold step to propose to the singer on stage. Aṣa while performing her last song for the night ‘Bamidele’ teased the audience with a freestyle melody ‘I like you Aṣa, I want you Aṣa, but you won’t marry me.’ Taking a cue from her lyrics, the young man climbed the stage, went down on one knee and asked Aṣa to marry him.

This display brought a climactic end to the maiden edition of the awards.
