Igbokwe Seeks Bail After Attempting to Murder Dora Akunyili

Olisa Igbokwe, one of the people being tried on charges of attempting to kill Prof. Dora Akunyili, while she was the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, has pleaded to be freed on bail to bury his mother.
Igbokwe, whose case was made by his relations and friends, said his mother, Mrs Salome Igbokwe, died on February 12, 2014 of cardiac arrest.
Igbokwe said another defendant in the matter had been granted bail on health grounds while his application for bail was rejected.
He recalled that when the mother of the leader of the Movement for Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike died, he was granted bail to bury her.
Igbokwe's community body, Nkporo Youths Association, Ohafia, led by Chief Arunsi Uka, pleaded that one Christopher Mba, also a suspect be granted bail with him, having stayed in detention for about 10 years now without conclusion of the trial.
Igbokwe urged the Attorney General of the Federation, National Assembly, National Judicial Council, World Human Rights Organisation and Prince Chidi Ibe Dike Ejiejemba to come to their aid.
He said they were being punished for an offence they did not commit.
Akunyili was nearly killed in Agulu, her hometown on December 26, 2003 when a bullet fired at her brushed her scalp and removed her headgear.
After one year of hearing, the matter was struck out.
But the prosecution appealed against the judgment.
